Our Executive Committee consists of Doug Matern and three shareholders. Together they oversee the financial health of the firm. This team is strongly supported by a ten-member Management Committee, which helps oversee projects in design and construction, business operations, client satisfaction, and mentoring the younger staff.
Many of the members of both committees have been with Matern for 10-25 years.
This strong management team, experienced staff, and effective in-house quality control at Matern have allowed for strong stability for 38 years and we perceive this to be the case for many years to come.
We are a client-centric team, that prides itself on quick responses, complete flexibility, and practical decision-making in our endeavor to “engineer building systems that work for you”.
Doug is the founder and inspiration of our firm. Doug has been an electrical engineer for over forty-eight years and founded the firm in 1984. One of his most coveted facilities is the Orlando International Airport. He has been providing engineering services for this facility since its inception. In his free time, Doug enjoys writing and playing music, boating, refurbishing MGs and Austin Healy’s, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Ryan is a hands-on leader in the firm. He thrives on mentoring staff and helping them reach their fullest potential. As a leader in energy solutions, Ryan has designed and implemented HVAC solutions such as hybrid-geothermal and thermal energy storage systems. Through the implementation of these systems, he has achieved clients’ rebates totaling over $9.5M through local energy companies. Ryan frequently donates his knowledge of mechanical system design to charitable organizations and is an active member of ASHRAE Central Florida. He is a fan of UCF and Steelers football; and loves to fish, cook, and spend time with family and friends. Ryan is instrumental in our Project Management program, day-to-day operations, and client satisfaction.
Adrian joined our team right out of college. His extraordinary grasp of all things engineering-related was quickly realized and cultivated. During his tenure, he has solved some of the most complicated issues for clients. He embraces unique projects and has designed co-generation power systems, photovoltaic systems, and even designed a dinner train refurbishment in Fort Myers. Adrian is passionate about helping new engineers grow thus he is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and teaches electrical apprentice classes for FEAT at Seminole State College. If you have a question on how to fix something, Adrian is the person to ask!
With a vision of living near the ocean, Todd relocated from his “sweet home in Alabama” to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Fort Myers office. He has been influential in better establishing this office and is an active member of the community. Managing client projects from Manatee to Collier Counties, Todd’s emphasis is on building relationships and becoming an extension of any team members’ staff. Todd hails from Auburn University. When he isn’t shouting War Eagle, he is enjoying fishing from his “Jon-canoe” or following his favorite band, Whiskey Myers. His team spirit captures the essence of what our firm was built upon.
