MATERN Leadership

Foundation

Douglas P. Matern founded Matern Professional Engineering in 1984 and maintained sole ownership until 2013 when three senior staff became shareholders. The firm transitioned to an ESOP company in 2024. The structure of Matern is as follows:

Organization Leadership

  • Trustee: Fulfills fiduciary responsibility for the ESOP participants.
  • Board of Directors (3 members): Oversees firm’s financial goals and the overall strategy of the executive and management of the company.
  • Executive Team (4 members): Manages daily operations, ensures quality control, and provides exceptional client service.
  • Management Team (10 members): Oversees all aspects of running their departments, including project management, firm projections, staff development, and client relationships. They are committed to client relationships, growth and long-term value for clients and shareholders alike. Many of the members of both committees have been with Matern for 10-25 years.

We are a client-centric team, that prides itself on quick responses, complete flexibility, and practical decision-making in our endeavor to “engineer building systems that work for you”.

With a vision of living near the ocean, Todd relocated from his “sweet home in Alabama” to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Fort Myers office. He has been influential in better establishing this office and is an active member of the community. Managing client projects from Manatee to Collier Counties, Todd’s emphasis is on building relationships and becoming an extension of any team members’ staff. Todd hails from Auburn University. When he isn’t shouting War Eagle, he is enjoying fishing from his “Jon-canoe” or following his favorite band, Whiskey Myers. His team spirit captures the essence of what our firm was built upon.
